Managing properties for conservation includes removal of weed threats which can overcome and deplete native species. The property ‘Marsdenia’ has a very good representation of Cumberland Plain Woodland but, in the past, when the property was in the ownership of others, dumping of garden waste occurred. Some of the garden waste became established on the property and has dominated some areas. Additionally, seeds from African Love Grass from nearby properties and road nature strips blew into ‘Marsdenia’ and established that weed species as well. While government grants enabled primary removal of all weeds there will be a need for follow-up weeding.
Our volunteer efforts at weed control will be essential so we have settled on the first Saturday morning of each month for qualified supervision of those who wish to contribute their energy to this conservation effort.
Come along. meet friends of a similar conservation mind, have fun and contribute to protecting this stand of “Critically Endangered” Cumberland Plain Woodland. Tools and resources provided.
Wear suitable clothing, hat, enclosed shoes, sun screen and bring water to drink. We hope to provide something of a snack at conclusion of work.
