‘Wombat’ Bushcare
Managing properties for conservation includes removal of weed threats which can overcome and deplete native species. The property ‘Wombat’ is dominated by Shale-Sandstone Transition Forest with a small area of Alluvial Woodland. The property was previously used for pastoral interests, followed by it being a buffer zone between a Transgrid substation and neighbouring properties.
There has been some grant funding to other community groups for weeding and plantings some decades ago but weed species, particularly Lantana, have become well established. Since Cumberland Land Conservancy Inc took up ownership we have have received some small grants to commence primary weeding.
Our volunteer efforts at weed control will be essential so we have settled on the third Saturday morning of each month for qualified supervision of those who wish to contribute their energy to this conservation effort.
Come along. meet friends of a similar conservation mind, have fun and contribute to protecting this refuge for fauna and ecological communities. Tools and resources provided.
Wear suitable clothing, hat, enclosed shoes, sun screen and bring water to drink. We hope to provide something of a snack at conclusion of work.
